The Green Beans Society and one of the faculty members Environmental Studies, Dr. Akanksha Mishra work for the awareness and sensitisation of students towards contemporary environmental issues that go a long way in making environmentally conscious citizens. Issues like conservation of energy and water, solid waste management and biodiversity study are the key issues to focus on raising the students’ awareness towards biodiversity and its importance in maintaining ecological balance.
During the audit, we identified different types of vegetation species of trees, herbs and shrubs through study of literature and online sources. The study area of the project is the College campus and a thematic sketch of the same is given below.
First phase of the audit was completed in the year 2017-18 wherein we identified the trees on campus and in the second phase, information on herbs and shrubs were compiled . Based on the inventory, the Simpson’s Biodiversity Index was calculated, which came out to be 0.88 on a scale of 0 to 1. This implies that the college campus is rich in variety as well as number of trees.
